Just decided that I’m not going to do the half marathon in 3 weeks like I planned. I’m nowhere near ready to do it so rather than stress myself out & struggle through I’m pulling the pin now.
I feel a little guilty but with everything else going on in my life at the moment I know it’s the right choice.

I am struggling to understand why so many people carry on doing things that don’t make them happy. I’m not talking about things done out of necessity, I’m talking about people who could easily change the way they live their lives but simply choose not to.
To be fair I was one of them but I didn’t actually realize how unhappy I was. Maybe it’s the same for other...

Long Run Day
I was really nervous about my run yesterday - 15.5km - not a short run by most standards, especially mine. The reason I was really nervous though is that it’s the first time I have run that far in nearly a year. The last time I ran that far was as part of a half marathon that I completely blew out on :(
The good news is that it went really well. I’ve been doing heart rate based...

Homemade food win
The boyfriend and I had our first attempt at making ravioli this weekend and I must admit it was a resounding success. Mushroom & spinach goodness on the inside with a fresh basil pesto sauce on the outside - tasty does not even start to describe it.
We really should have taken photos but we were far too keen to get all that pasta goodness into our mouths!
I’m so keen to try out more...

Workout 13 March 2013
50 walking lunges (10kg)
50 box jumps (knee height)
50 lower leg crunches (leg to bar) - no idea what these are actually called
50 squats (30kg)
50 deadlifts (25kg)
50 benchpress (10kg)
50 crunches (legs up with 1kg medicine ball)
First time doing this kind of workout in a while & I forgot how sweaty & out of breath you get - I loved it! Definitely making it a regular thing.
I hate being injured! Especially when the injury was caused by work & not play. Just hurry up and get better so I can go for a run!
As much as I don't want to start counting calories...
sometimes its good to check up on how you are going with that sort of thing, particularly when you increase your training or change the way you are eating.
Over the last 2 months I have probably doubled the amount of running I do & changed the way I am eating after some suggestions from my trainer at the gym (less snacks, higher protein). Today I put my meal plan into MFP just to see what...

It's 10 cent pie day at the bakery next door
I don’t really know how to feel about that. Part of me is kind of disappointed at the number of people getting pies but then I have to remind myself that in the not so distant past I would have been one of them.
I guess I’m just happy not to be one of those people any more, my body deserves WAY better than what those pies are made of.
Time management
Ok so in an effort to create the extra hours in the day that I need I’ve decided to cut back on the amount of mindless TV I watch. It’s not that I actually watch it all that much, I just have it on as background noise & it’s distracting from what I should be doing. So this is the plan -
Starting today I will record all the shows that I actually enjoy so that I don’t...
Got complimented on my deadlift form by the owner of the gym today :)
Also increased my weight on one of my exercises and increased reps on the others. I finally feel like I’ve got a routine I can stick with.
Tomorrow I have an assessment so will find out my current body fat %. I’m a bit nervous about it but it will be good to have a benchmark to improve on.

Heart Rate Training
I am now officially sold on Heart rate training for fitness. Today I did my first comparison run after starting this training programme in January & here are the results for my 6.7km loop run.
7th Feb: 51min27sec, average heart rate 151bpm, average pace 7:40min/km
25th Feb: 47min34sec, average heart rate 150bpm, average pace 7:06min/km
Less than 3 weeks between the two and over 30 seconds...

Inspiration
I spent this weekend in Taupo as support crew for my amazing boyfriend who just completed his first ultramarathon. Not only did he run 67.5km but he also raised over $1600 for charity. Words cannot express how proud of him I am and how much he inspires me to become a better person.
I can’t wait to get out & do my own run tonight - I need to get training so I can keep up with him!!

Fitness Goals 2013
I know it’s February already & a bit late for the whole new years resolution thing but this morning at the gym I was thinking about what I want to achieve this year. It’s taken me until now to get into a routine that I am happy with and now that I’ve done that I feel like I can set some goals.
Firstly I want to be able to do a pull up - queue lots of upper body work &...

Lessons from the gym this morning
* Always put ALL your weights away! Especially if they aren’t on the machine in the usual place. This morning when I got on the incline leg press machine someone had left 40kg on the back of it (the extra weight bar for those strong types who fill up the normal bars) & I didn’t notice until half way through my first set. I usually put 80kg on so an extra 40kg was a BIG difference....
